UPT20: Vats, Nishad Star With Four-fers As Gorakhpur Lions Crush Kashi Rudras By Eight Wickets

UP T20 League Governing Council: Pacer Vasu Vats and spinner Vishal Nishad took clinical four-wicket hauls each as Gaur Gorakhpur Lions secured an eight-wicket victory over defending champions Kashi Rudras in the UP T20 League here on Saturday. Chasing a modest target of 139, the Gorakhpur Lions made short work of the pursuit by cruising home in just 14.4 overs at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Opting to bat first, the Rudras were put under early pressure by Vats, who removed opener Abhishek Goswami. Although Karan Sharma and Sahab Yuvraj Singh (43) briefly stabilized the innings with a 43-run second-wicket stand, the introduction of Nishad completely turned the contest in Gorakhpurs favour. Nishad tore through the middle order, taking four vital wickets, including the well-set Yuvraj Singh, to reduce the Rudras to 90/5. Upendra Yadav and Arnav Baliyan offered late resistance with a 30-run partnership, but Vats returned in the penultimate over to grab three quick wickets and stop any hopes of a late flourish. Baliyan hit an unbeaten 16-ball 27 as Kashi were bowled out for 138. Nishad was later named Player of the Match for his game-defining spell of 4-19. The run chase for Lions was a dominant display from the start. Opener Abhay Pratap Singh set the early tempo with a quickfire 24 off 11 balls, before Aryan Chaudhary and skipper Aryan Juyal took total command. CM Yogi Adityanath invites Japanese firms to make UP their Second Industrial Home

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday invited Japanese companies to make the state their Second Industrial Home, offering a combination of a large young workforce, infrastructure, market and improving business environment. Addressing the inaugural session of the Uttar Pradesh-Japan Investment Meet 2026 in New Delhi, Adityanath said the partnership between India and Japan should go beyond setting up manufacturing units and focus on technology development, research and development, skill centres and global supply chains. Drawing a comparison between the two sides, the Chief Minister said Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun, brings decades of industrial experience, precision, quality, technology and manufacturing excellence, while Uttar Pradesh, the Land of the Suryavansh, offers scale, skills, a large market, infrastructure and a young workforce. India-Japan partnership is a partnership of shared growth, shared technology and shared prosperity, Adityanath said, adding that Uttar Pradesh now accounts for 55 per cent of the countrys mobile phone production and nearly 60 per cent of electronic component manufacturing. He said the state had emerged among Indias top three economies and was moving towards its goal of becoming a $1-trillion economy. Over the past nine years, he said, Uttar Pradesh had tripled its budget, gross state domestic product and per capita income, while womens workforce participation had increased more than threefold. CM Yogi highlighted Uttar Pradeshs expanding industrial and logistics infrastructure, including 17 airports, metro networks in seven cities, two Dedicated Freight Corridors, industrial and logistics corridors and Indias first inland waterway. The state, he said, has more than 75,000 acres of dedicated industrial land, 27 industrial manufacturing and logistics clusters and 36 sector-specific policies covering areas such as IT, green hydrogen, solar power, food processing and defence manufacturing. He said Uttar Pradesh had also emerged as a hub for artificial intelligence, semiconductors, data centres, robotics, electric vehicles, agritech, fintech, deeptech and defence manufacturing. The Chief Minister said a Japan City was being developed near Noida International Airport, with semiconductor, electronics and data-centre clusters coming up in the vicinity. He also highlighted the states Plug and Play Industrial Sheds scheme and the development of Noida International Airport as a cargo, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and logistics hub. CM Yogi said the states Nivesh 3.0 platform had brought various government services under a single system, allowing investors to track applications online and speeding up approvals. Calling quality and long-term commitment the major strengths of Japanese industry, CM Yogi said Uttar Pradesh wanted to create a long-term Japanese industrial ecosystem rather than attract individual factories. We want Japanese companies to not only set up factories here, but also build technology, R&D, skill centres and global supply chains, he said. He proposed combining Japanese manufacturing practices such as Kaizen, 5S, lean manufacturing, robotics, automation and precision engineering with the states young workforce to create a new skills ecosystem. The Chief Minister also highlighted cooperation with Japans Yamanashi Prefecture in areas including green hydrogen, renewable energy and clean technology. He said two Green Hydrogen Centres of Excellence were being established through IIT Kanpur, HBTU Kanpur, IIT-BHU and MMMUT Gorakhpur, with 50 crore sanctioned for each centre. He said the objective was to take the partnership beyond research towards pilot projects, commercial applications and production. He said the proposed tripartite MoU between JETRO, Invest UP and CII would provide a stronger institutional framework for attracting Japanese investment and strengthening business-to-business and government-to-business partnerships. The next chapter of this partnership would take shape in factories, be born through innovation in laboratories, develop talent in universities, and reach the world through global supply chains, CM Yogi said. The event was attended by Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Yamanashi Governor Kotaro Nagasaki, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna and other state ministers, JETRO officials and industry leaders.

Rumblings in poll-bound UP

It is a clash of titans which is unfolding before the all-important 2027 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha polls. It is an unusual clash unfolding in the annals of BJP- unheard of during the last decade of Narendra Modi-Amit Shah supremacy, as the enthusiastic Opposition watches with glee from sidelines. It is so because they, Opposition, are for the time being, out of this clash which is between the two power centres of the saffron party, Modi-Shahs centralised oversight leaving hardly any margin for fellow compatriots, and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Aditynanaths independent style of governance, loath to any interference from top bosses in New Delhi. Many manifestations of this clash of titans have come to the fore in the recent past. From BJPs internal battle of supremacy to control the organisational mechanism in Uttar Pradesh, to reports of the Centres desperate but failed attempts, up till now, to reign in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath like the other BJP-ruled states headed by lightweights and political novices. And the huge controversy surrounding the alleged theft of donations in Ayodhyas Ram Temple assuming a state versus Centre dimension. In all these manifestations the battle-lines seem getting drawn more clearly. To cap it all, Governor Mrs Anandiben Patel choosing Chief Minister Yogi Adityanaths home turf Gorakhpur, his political as well as spiritual karambhoomi, to impliedly target him on the pretext of poor facilities in local educational institutions for the students and other like issues, has generated curiosity both within the BJP-leaving them guessing as to what is transpiring ahead of the assembly elections- and the Opposition camp led by Samajwadi Party-Congress combine. As it is, the path to the coming assembly elections is strewn with serious hurdles for the BJP in view of rumblings in the partys traditional vote-base. The recent set of developments with the Governor pitching in, taking upon herself the role of opposition rather than remaining within the confines of her Constitutional limits, has led to tongues wagging whether the Yogi will be projected as the CM face for his possible third consecutive term or not. Or is he destined to go the way senior BJP leaders such as Mrs Vasundhara Raje and Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan- both shown the door despite being powerful chief ministers in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. A common thread connecting the three senior leaders of politically important states is that many consider them as possible Prime Ministerial hopefuls. And that has proved to be undoing of Mrs Raje and Mr Chouhan and the phenomena seems to be catching up with Yogi Adityanath. The significance of Governor Anandibens diatribe lies in the selection of Gorakhpur which is strongly connected with the chief minister. She seized upon the opportunity to pull up the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, in her capacity as its Chancellor, and local administration over hostel infrastructure and student amenities. Ostensibly, her message was designed to be sent where it was meant to target. Apart from Gorakhpur being Yogi Adityanaths seat of power, selecting it to indirectly target him has many dimensions attached to it. After all he was MP from Gorakhpur for five consecutive terms before taking over as the chief ministers. And more importantly, it is home to the Gorakhnath Math of which the Yogi is the powerful head. Could Mrs Anandiben have done this on her own will or she was ordained to do so by the party high command? It is to remember that she was a veteran politician from Gujarat and a senior minister before becoming Governor of one of the most politically significant state Uttar Pradesh which is central to BJPs national politics and ambitions. Well, the Gorakhpur episode was not an isolated outburst by her but it has become significant being the home-turf of the Yogi who is in the eye of storm having managed to pursue a line independent of New Delhi. Credit goes to him for steadfastly standing his ground but that has also, of late, become a reason for him to court problems. Will he be able to offset the effect of these developments focused on him in the run up to, not only the assembly election but the subsequent Lok Sabha polls as well? Ordinarily Modi-Shah duo will never like to off-set the political equilibrium to BJPs disadvantage as the road to victory in 2029 general elections passes through Uttar Pradesh. As it is, the central dispensation is facing plethora of problems including the serious challenge posed by the Gen Z protests propelled by an unknown Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and the resultant strong police action against the protestors at New Delhis Jantar Mantar which has led to the washing out of the monsoon Session of Parliament on the issue. Mrs Patel has repeatedly used public platforms to question the functioning of institutions under the state government during past few weeks. At the Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology in Kanpur on July 10, she raised fingers on the way the agricultural system was responding to farmers. She referred to farmers being given targets for seed production and then being forced to purchase seeds from large companies after meeting those targets. Likewise, in Lucknow University, she has questioned hostel Wi-Fi, drinking water, food quality and maintenance. She has also expressed displeasure over sanitation around academic departments and the Tagore Library. At King Georges Medical University, she questioned the use of expired spice powder in a mess and raised concerns over food and cleanliness. Her intervention prompted the university administration to constitute a special task force for monitoring such facilities. And at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith in Varanasi, her attention again turned to hostels, messes, food, Wi-Fi and sanitation. On the face of it there is nothing wrong in the Governor intervening in the functioning of such institutions as she is entitled to discharge her responsibilities as Chancellor of state universities and other such institutions. But place, timing and possible motive in the face of approaching assembly elections, certainly raise doubts. However, what makes it more intriguing is the fact that her criticism of the state set-up has moved beyond the confines of universities. During her recent visit to Ayodhya, she did not hesitate to take a swipe at the bureaucratic functioning. Her statement that devotees could get darshan at the Ram Temple more easily than a government file could get cleared, took everyone by surprise. The obvious hint was to the bureaucratic Red-tape prevalent in the state. Under this garb the obvious target seemed to be the political leadership of the ruling party in UP.

Uttar Pradesh's per capita income witnessed 3 fold rise, claims CM

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that Eastern Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a rapidly growing economy on the strength of its youth. Its people, especially the youth, have never lacked talent and hard work. Whenever they have had the opportunity, they have proven their potential. In the last nine years, the state has succeeded in tripling its economy. During this period, per capita income in Eastern Uttar Pradesh has more than tripled. He is confident that within the next three years, Uttar Pradesh will move towards becoming a one trillion dollar economy. It is not appropriate to stigmatize youth The Chief Minister was addressing News18 India's Changing Eastern Uttar Pradesh conclave in Gorakhpur on Tuesday. He said that it is not appropriate to stigmatize youth. If the talent and potential of the state's youth could not be utilized in development earlier, it was not due to the lack of youth, but rather, it was due to the system that was unable to utilize their talent. The fault lay with those who failed to provide platforms and opportunities for them to progress. When a government came to power that provided a platform for youth, opportunities were created for them in every field. As a result, today the youth of the state are proving their mettle everywhere. There was no shortage of talent, but previous governments failed to provide a platform . The Chief Minister said that at one time, a large number of people from eastern Uttar Pradesh emigrated to various countries, including Mauritius and Fiji, as registered workers. Today, their descendants hold leadership roles in many countries. Eastern Uttar Pradesh never lacked talent, but rather, lacked a proper platform. This region never received the desired encouragement. The pain of neglect during slavery is understandable. However, after independence, there was no such compulsion regarding the development of eastern Uttar Pradesh. In the last nine years, investments in Gorakhpur alone have provided employment to 50,000 youth. UP is the state with the largest youth population in the country. The Chief Minister said that Uttar Pradesh represents the largest youth population in the country. Approximately 56 to 60 percent of the state's population is young. This youth force is talented and energetic. Whenever it found the right platform, it has proven its talent. The government is working at various levels to connect youth with quality education, competitive exam preparation, modern technology skills, employment, and self-employment. For youth preparing for competitive exams, a system has been developed to ensure that financial or other factors do not hinder their preparation. Any youth can join Chief Minister Abhyudaya Coaching. It offers virtual as well as physical preparation. It provides preparation for competitive exams like UPSC, Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, NEET, and IIT-JEE. District officials, including District Magistrates and Joint Magistrates, also devote at least an hour to Abhyudaya Coaching. The government is committed to skilling the youth. CM Yogi stated that today, the greatest need for youth is skill development. Skill development centers have been developed for this purpose. At least two ITIs in each district have been developed, connecting them with modern technology on a hub-and-spoke model. Advanced courses such as artificial intelligence, drone technology, space technology, robotics, 3D printing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are being offered. This system is not limited to training and certification for youth. Campus selection is also available. Opportunities are also being provided for youth who wish to start their own business instead of a job. Along with schemes like PM Internship and CM Internship, a platform has been provided through
