From Not Knowing What Shooting Was To Asian Games: Manisha Keers Journey

Madhya Pradesh State Shooting Academy: Indian trap shooter Manisha Keer is preparing for another major international challenge, but her journey to representing the country began with an unlikely discovery. Growing up in a modest family in a village near Bhopal, Manisha knew little about shooting until her elder sister introduced her to the sport that would eventually shape her career. I didnt even know what shooting was. I only knew cricket, volleyball and football. I didnt even know about shooting and I didnt even think about it, Manisha recalled. Her elder sister Sona, herself a sportsperson, played a key role in introducing her to shooting. But pursuing the sport presented challenges from the outset, particularly for a family with limited financial resources. My family was not that capable to support me. They couldnt give me everything that I wanted. It was very difficult for me, she said. The financial demands of shooting became even more apparent when Manisha began travelling for competitions. Still only 18, she had to learn how to manage with limited resources while continuing her pursuit of the sport. When I used to go out for competitions, I had to face a lot of challenges. I couldnt eat what I wanted to eat. I had to save some money, she recollected. Her initial years at the Madhya Pradesh State Shooting Academy also required her to adapt quickly. With no regular coach available during the early phase, Manisha learned by making use of the support and facilities around her, with her sister providing important guidance. In the academy, whatever was there was enough for us. I mean, you have to do what you have, Manisha said. That approach became central to her development. From learning a sport she had barely heard of, Manisha gradually progressed through the ranks and made her mark internationally, winning a junior World Championship silver medal in trap in 2018 and an Asian Games silver medal as part of India's women's trap team. The struggles of her early years also taught her to become more independent. No one can be together all the time. We have to take care of ourselves too. That was also a learning point, she reflected. Looking back at the journey, Manisha believes her growth came from learning to work with whatever resources were available to her. I learned from whatever I had, and thats how I grew up, she said. As her career progressed, Manisha also found increasing institutional support through the National Rifle Association of India, which provided opportunities to train, compete and represent the country. I learned from whatever I had, and thats how I grew up, she said. Bihar, Jharkhand sign Sone water-sharing agreement in presence of Home Minister Amit Shah

New Delhi, Aug 31: In the presence of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, an MoU was signed between Bihar and Jharkhand on the sharing of Sone River water. Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren, Chief Minister of Bihar Samrat Choudhary, Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Patil, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, the Union Home Secretary, and senior officials from the Government of India and both states were present on this occasion. Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah said that todays agreement between Bihar and Jharkhand has resolved a long-awaited water dispute in eastern India. He said that this agreement will provide irrigation water to lakhs of farmers in large rural areas of Bihar and Jharkhand, along with drinking water for the people. Amit Shah stated that the agreement reached today regarding the sharing of the Sone River's waters is an excellent example of the 'Team Bharat' vision and cooperative federalism championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that while all states possess their own distinct identities, if they move forward as 'Team Bharat' within the national context, there is no problem which cannot be resolved. Shri Shah added that this marks the fourth water agreement between states this year, which will enhance water availability for irrigation, rural development, and drinking purposes. Union Home Minister said that the agreement reached today to resolve the nearly 25-year-old water dispute between Bihar and Jharkhand exemplifies that any problem can be solved through dialogue conducted with the spirit of cooperative federalism. He said that issues concerning vast geographical areas, farmers, rural regions, and drinking water supplies in both states have been permanently resolved today. Amit Shah said that today's agreement would ensure the availability of adequate water for drinking and irrigation to a large population across the districts of Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Arwal, Gaya, and Patna in Bihar. Moreover, water would become available for irrigation and drinking purposes in the Palamu, Garhwa, and other regions of Jharkhand. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for resolving the issue of Sone River water sharing. On the initiative of Home Minister Amit Shah, long-pending water disputes between various states that had been unresolved for several decades are being resolved through the Inter-State Council, so far this year, four historic agreements have been reached. On July 7, 2026, a historic agreement regarding the settlement of outstanding payments was signed among the 'Narmada Award' beneficiary states Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh in the presence of the Union Home Minister. This agreement marks a milestone in resolving long-standing disputes among these states concerning cost-sharing for the construction of the Sardar Sarovar Project, with the outstanding dues being resolved through a one-time settlement. On June 29, 2026, a significant agreement was signed between the governments of Rajasthan and Haryana regarding the construction and implementation of the Yamuna Water Project. Under this agreement, approximately 580 MCM of water will be conveyed from the Yamuna Canal to Rajasthan via three underground pipelines. The project aims to deliver Rajasthan's share of Yamuna water from the Western Yamuna Canal through these underground pipelines. This will enable Rajasthan to effectively utilize the water allocated to it under the 1994 agreement regarding the sharing of usable surface water in the Upper Yamuna Basin. The project will ensure a continuous supply of drinking water to the arid and low-rainfall regions of Rajasthan and foster socio-economic development, thereby benefiting millions of people. On June 16, 2026, a consensus was reached among the concerned states regarding the long-pending Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project during a crucial meeting held in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah. During the meeting, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the Kishau Multipurpose Project. Regarding the project, the Central Government will provide 90% of the funding for the water component as central assistance, while the six states will bear the financial burden of the remaining 10%. An agreement was reached to allocate the water assigned to Himachal Pradesh to Delhi and Rajasthan in exchange for sharing the cost of the project's power component.

Duleep Trophy: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Dazzles, Mukesh Strikes Twice As East Zone Keep Central To 45/3

The Madhya Pradesh: East Zone vice-captain Vaibhav Sooryavanshi dazzled with a stroke-filled 92, helping his side reach parity with defending champions Central Zone before Mukesh Kumar struck twice to end Day 2 on a high for East on Monday. With eyes glued on Sooryavanshi in his red-ball Test, the 15-year-old starred with a record-breaking 92 off 81 balls, turning heads with seven sixes and as many fours at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1. During his stroke-filled knock, the Bihar batter became the youngest-ever player to score a half-century in the Duleep Trophy. At 15 years and 157 days, Sooryavanshi broke the 57-year-old record of Laxman Singh, who was 16 years and 23 days old when he smashed a fifty in the red-ball tournament in 1969. He could well have become the youngest centurion in the Duleep Trophy had he not holed out to deep midwicket off Harsh Dubey. While Sooryavanshi put the bowlers to the sword, his senior opening partner Abhimanyu Easwaran was content to hold the end up, scoring 69 off 106 balls as the two put on 161 for the opening wicket. Meanwhile, Sooryavanshi's dismissal triggered a collapse of the Ishan Kishan-led East side as Dubey and seamers Aryan Pandey and Yash Thakur ripped through the line-up. Dubey removed two in two, dismissing Kumar Kushagra on the next ball before Aryan took the baton. The Madhya Pradesh seamer bowled brilliantly after lunch, taking three wickets in 15 minutes. This included the scalps of Easwaran, Virat Singh and Sudip Gharami. Yash also impressed with three wickets of his own, as East managed to score 266 in the first innings, the same total Central made on Day 1. Meanwhile, Sooryavanshi's dismissal triggered a collapse of the Ishan Kishan-led East side as Dubey and seamers Aryan Pandey and Yash Thakur ripped through the line-up. Duleep Trophy Semis: East Face Central, North Take On South (Preview)

North East Zone: Eyes will be on teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again when he takes the field in the Duleep Trophy semifinal for East Zone against Rajat Patidar's defending champions, Central Zone, while South Zone will face North Zone in the other semifinal. Both matches are set for Sunday. East Zone won their quarter-final against North East Zone, as all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed starred with both bat and ball to lead the side to an innings-and-210-run win. Shahbaz (167) forged a strong 150-run partnership with the other centurion, Sudip Kumar Gharami (146), to power the Ishan Kishan-led side to a daunting 467. Medium-pacer Abhijit K Sarkar and Shahbaz then plotted the downfall of the North East side, with Abhijit taking 5-20 and Shahbaz 3-20 as they bowled Rongsen Jonathan's team out for 111 and enforced a follow-on. North East Zone again faced the brunt of East Zone's bowlers and were bowled out for 146 in the follow-on, with no one scoring a half-century. Kanhaiya Wadhawan's North Zone defeated the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led West Zone by 52 runs, as Abid Mushtaq and Nishant Sindhu shared six wickets to deny West a chase of 286 on the final day of the quarter-final. North had scored 251 in the first innings after a late-order 60 from Anshul Kamboj, while Mushtaq took a five-for in the first innings, as his team took a 44-run lead. North did enough in the second innings too, as Ayush Badoni hit 50 and Sindhu made 44, taking the team to 222. Mushtaq stood tall once again with the ball, taking 4-60 in the second innings, while Sindhu took 2-59 in a 52-run win. South Zone will pose a significant threat to North's title hopes.
