Siddhesh Lad appointed as Mumbai's captain for Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season
Seasoned middle-order batter Siddhesh Lad has replaced Shardul Thakur as Mumbai captain for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Thakur has been replaced to manage his workload while the dependable Lad has been heralded as the new leader of the domestic giants for a second consecutive season. Thakur had earlier replaced Ajinkya Rahane as Mumbai captain for the 2025-26 season in which the 42-time Ranji Trophy winners finished their campaign in the quarterfinal stage. The Ranji season will kick off on October 11 and Mumbai will be taking on Chandigarh in their opening match. Lad's appointment has been confirmed by a top official from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). The 34-year-old Lad, who returned to the Mumbai set up in 2024-25 after serving a one-year cool off period for having moved to Goa. The death of 28-year-old Punjabi social media influencer Manjeet Kaur has raised serious questions nearly two months after her alleged abduction from Chandigarh. According to her mothers complaint, Kaur was allegedly called to Sector 34 by acquaintances Shubhi and Pinda on July 3-4, assaulted, abducted and taken to a forested area near Morinda, where she was reportedly tied to a tree and set on fire. She suffered severe burns and died at PGIMER on August 26. Her autopsy revealed that she was nearly seven weeks pregnant. Questions have also been raised over the police response after Kaur reportedly regained consciousness and wanted to record her statement. An FIR naming Shubhi and Pinda was registered on August 27. Kaur had around 1.46 lakh Instagram followers.

Par panel suggests establishing dedicated NCLT benches for insolvency cases
A Parliamentary panel has suggested establishing dedicated benches or verticals for insolvency cases at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to expedite disposal of such matters as well as ensure that the tribunal gives equal attention for cases under the companies law. Apart from the principal bench and the New Delhi bench, NCLT has benches in Allahabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata, Kochi, and Mumbai. The recommendations are part of a report prepared by the Department-Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice.
