Star Cast: Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, Christian Convery Director: David Robert Mitchell The End Of Oak Street Movie Review Synopsis: THE END OF OAK STREET is the story of a family caught in an unusual and terrifying situation. The year is 1982. Denise Platt (Anne Hathaway) lives on Oak Street in the suburb of Flowervale with her husband Greg (Ewan McGregor), daughter Audrey (Maisy Stella) and son Brian (Christian Convery). Denise and Greg's marriage is on the rocks. Greg works as a delivery man for Pete's Pizza, and Denise has reservations about his job as she wants him to find more regular employment. Meanwhile, strange things begin occurring on Oak Street. A mysterious plant appears in the backyard of Denise's elderly neighbour. A huge pile of what looks like cow excrement mysteriously turns up in the yard of their neighbour, Mel (P J Byrne). One night, a huge white light suddenly engulfs Oak Street, followed by a loud noise and a power cut. The next morning, the Platts wake up and realize that the electricity has still not been restored. When they step outside, they get the shock of their lives as they see dinosaurs roaming around the neighbourhood. What happens next forms the rest of the film. The End Of Oak Street Movie Story Review: David Robert Mitchell's story is novel and fascinating. David Robert Mitchell's screenplay is gripping from the very first scene and keeps viewers hooked until the very end. The dialogues are conversational and a few one-liners are funny. David Robert Mitchell's direction is splendid. He gives the film a distinct retro touch; hence, the colour tone, the execution and even the background score carry an old-world stamp. The plot is a winner. We have seen films about aliens attacking cities or dinosaurs wreaking havoc in parks specifically created for them. In THE END OF OAK STREET, however, dinosaurs are unleashed in an ordinary American suburb, which gives the premise a fresh spin. How the Platt family attempts to survive and battle these creatures makes for a thrilling watch. A few jump scares are sure to evoke screams in cinemas, while certain mass-appealing moments are likely to be greeted with applause. On the flipside, the actions of a few characters seem illogical. This is especially evident around the mid-point, when both Audrey and Brian leave the house without informing their parents despite knowing that it is dangerous to be outside. The sub-plot involving Jeannette (Jordan Alexa Davis) and Kaden Tucker (Hudson Meek) seems forced and does not add much to the principal plot. Certain questions remain unanswered till the very end, which may not be liked by some sections of the audience. Lastly, the comic moments help ease the tension, but a few of them feel unwarranted. The End Of Oak Street Movie Review Performances: Anne Hathaway delivers a solid performance that enhances the impact of the film. She is impressive in the action sequences, but truly shines in the emotional moments. Another scene where she stands out is when she clicks a picture of Greg with two dinosaurs in the background. The actress is on a roll. Earlier this year, she was seen in THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 and THE ODYSSEY, and her roles in all three films are vastly different from one another, proving her versatility yet again. Ewan McGregor also makes his presence felt and dominates some key scenes. Maisy Stella and Christian Convery also put their best foot forward. Jordan Alexa Davis and Hudson Meek do well but are let down by the writing. P J Byrne is okay. Anne Gee Byrd (Mrs Huddleston) leaves a huge mark in a small role. Emily Kuroda (Mrs Valcourt; librarian) is fair. The End Of Oak Street movie music and other technical aspects: Michael Giacchino's music has a retro touch and is perfectly in sync with the films mood. Michael Gioulakis's cinematography is praiseworthy. In certain shots, a split-diopter lens appears to have been used, allowing a character or object in the extreme foreground and another element in the distant background to remain in sharp focus simultaneously. It lends a distinctive visual touch to the film. The action is realistic as well as gory. The VFX is top-class. Erin Benach's costumes and Maya Shimoguchi's production design effectively recreate the bygone era. John Axelrad's editing is sharp and unhurried. The End Of Oak Street Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, THE END OF OAK STREET is a gripping, visually striking and entertaining creature thriller that scores with its novel premise, retro treatment, thrilling dinosaur sequences and strong performances by Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. The film has managed to register decent advance bookings despite the clash with AWARAPAN 2 and BATWARA 1947. As a result, it has the potential to surprise at the ticket windows.
Star Cast: Sunny Deol, Preity G Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Karan Deol Director: Rajkumar Santoshi Batwara 1947 Movie Review Synopsis: BATWARA 1947 is the story of a man who goes to extraordinary lengths in the name of humanity. On the eve of Independence, Meerut-based Sikandar Mirza (Sunny Deol) is celebrating Indias freedom from British rule. Communal riots have broken out in several parts of the country, but Sikandar believes that the violence will soon subside. However, as India attains Independence at the stroke of midnight, the situation spirals dangerously out of control. Sikandar is advised to leave Meerut and migrate to Lahore, Pakistan. Left with little choice, he, along with his wife Hamida (Preity G Zinta), son Javed (Karan Deol) and daughter Tanno (Khhushi Hajare), makes his way to the railway station. After a harrowing journey, the family reaches Lahore and takes shelter in a relief camp. Following several hardships, they are finally allotted a haveli called Durga Nivas. Their relief, however, is short-lived when they discover that an elderly woman (Shabana Azmi) is living on the top floor of the mansion. She reveals that she is the original owner of the haveli and has no intention of leaving her home. Sikandar and his family try to persuade her to migrate to India, but she firmly refuses to budge. What happens next forms the rest of the film. Batwara 1947 Movie Story Review: BATWARA 1947 is adapted from Asghar Wajahats acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nahin Dekhya. The story is compelling and has all the ingredients for a hard-hitting yet deeply emotional film. Rajkumar Santoshis screenplay is powered by strong drama and heartfelt moments, though it falls short when it comes to delivering enough massy sequences. Rajkumar Santoshi and Asghar Wajahats dialogues are sharp and impactful. However, they dont quite match the searing, whistle-worthy one-liners associated with the earlier collaborations of Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi. Rajkumar Santoshi's direction is simplistic. His biggest strength is that he tells a story that celebrates humanity. While doing so, he handles the religious sentiment very sensitively and in such a manner that viewers of all faiths will appreciate it. The situation that the Mirza family finds themselves in is one of a kind. They are puzzled as to how to solve the problem at hand. Meanwhile, the manner in which Mai accepts them despite it being her house is sweet. The action moments will impress the masses. The climax is quite moving. On the flipside, the film has been promoted as a mass entertainer replete with action. Those expecting Sunny Deol bashing up baddies at regular intervals will be disappointed. This is because there are very few action moments. The ones before the interval are thanda. Secondly, Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi have delivered films like GHAYAL [1990], DAMINI [1993] and GHATAK [1996]. In these films, action and emotion went hand in hand and moreover, it had power-packed dialogues at regular intervals. There was a potential for the same even in BATWARA 1947, but the makers let go of the opportunity. The length is another issue. The film drags in the middle of the second half. Batwara 1947 | Official Trailer | Shabana Azmi | Sunny Deol | Aamir Khan Productions Batwara 1947 Movie Review Performances: Sunny Deol, as expected, rocks the show. Like always, the film goes to dizzying heights in action scenes. But watch out for him when he breaks down and also in the climax. It's sure to touch the viewers' hearts. Shabana Azmi comes next; her performance is so endearing that audiences will connect with her from the very first scene. Preity G Zinta puts up a great act and it's a pleasure to see her again on screen. Karan Deol is dependable and the same goes for Khhushi Hajare. Ali Fazal (Habib Anwar) is too good in a supporting role. Abhimanyu Singh (Yakub Khan) is aptly cast as the villain. Kanikka Kapur (Nishat) has a late entry and lends able support. Ira Sandhir (Tabassum) is wasted. Rukhsar Rehman (Savitri), Khalid Siddiqui (Ratan), Pankaj Raina (Zafar) and Vishnu Sharma (Maulvi) do well in small roles. Batwara 1947 movie music and other technical aspects: A R Rahman's music is underwhelming. 'Tabassum' is forcefully incorporated in the film, while 'Kahaan Chale Gaye Ho Ram' is well shot. The other songs fail to register. A R Rahman's background score is in sync with the film's zone. Santosh Sivan's cinematography is satisfactory while Ravi Verma's action is mass appealing. Maxima Basu's costumes and Subrata Chakraborty and Amit Ray's production design are reminiscent of the bygone era. Shyam Salgaonkar's editing could have been crisper. Batwara 1947 Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, BATWARA 1947 is a well-intentioned and moving tale of humanity that benefits immensely from strong performances by Sunny Deol and Shabana Azmi. However, the lack of regular action and powerful mass moments, coupled with a lengthy second half, prevents it from becoming a hard-hitting entertainer. As a result, the film has opened below expectations at the box office and will need strong positive word of mouth to pick up in the coming days.
Before Batwara 1947 hit theatres, Preity Zinta revisited the beginning of her journey as Hamida with a throwback picture.

Batwara 1947 Review: Sunny Deol makes the most of the film's quieter moments and emotive scenes to add a kind of weight that is far more powerful than his fists of fury.
Star Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi Director: Nitin Kakkar Awarapan 2 Movie Review Synopsis: AWARAPAN 2 is the story of a man on a mission. Nineteen years have passed since the events of the first part. Shivam Pandit (Emraan Hashmi) has survived and continues to mourn the untimely demise of Aaliyah Hamid (Shriya Saran). He forms a bond with an abandoned child, whom he names Aaliyah (Myrah Shivan). When the girl finds herself in trouble, Shivam brings back his old, brave and fearless avatar. He travels to Bangkok and takes on members of a dangerous gang to save Aaliyah. Amid the chaos, he finds solace in Zara (Disha Patani). What happens next forms the rest of the film. Awarapan 2 Movie Story Review: Vishesh Bhatt's story carries the essence of the first part. Bilal Siddiqi and Vishesh Bhatt's screenplay is engaging and peppered with engaging and emotional moments. However, the writing could have been tighter and less predictable. Bilal Siddiqi and Vishesh Bhatt's dialogues (additional dialogues by Sanjay Masoom) are in sync with the zone of the film. Nitin Kakkar's direction is mass appealing. He nicely plays on the nostalgia factor and moreover, presents the protagonist in an extremely likeable avatar. Hence, one roots for Shivam from start to finish. The antagonist's track and his equation with his siblings is another riveting track that will be lapped up by the audience. There's abundance of action which will find patronage from the mass audience and single screen patrons. Certain scenes will lead to lots of claps and whistles. On the flipside, despite the best efforts, the film falls short of the greatness of AWARAPAN [2007], which has become a cult classic. The romantic track between Shivam and Zara doesn't work as intended. A few twists are predictable and one can guess from a mile away. A few scenes are silly like the villain allowing the protagonist to survive and not killing. It makes no sense considering that he's shown to be quite ruthless. Lastly, the final scene will leave the audience divided. Awarapan 2 Movie Review Performances: Emraan Hashmi is presented in a mass appealing avatar and will be loved. There's been a huge demand to see him in such a character but he had not done a role of this kind in a long time. Hence, masses and his fans will be in for a treat. Disha Patani looks stunning and gives a first-rate performance. Shabana Azmi (Nafisa Nawaz) is lovely and one wishes she had more screen time. Puran Gabbi (Zorawar) is a great find and is a big surprise. Aniruddh Rawal (Sikandar) is another actor that will be appreciated. Suvinder Vicky (Jaideep), Vijayant Kohli (Mehmood) and Atul Kumar (Samarth) lend able support. Myrah Shivan delivers a confident performance. Shriya Saran and Shaad Randhawa's cameos are fair. Awarapan 2 movie music and other technical aspects: The music is decent and again, no match to the soundtrack of the original. 'Tera Mera Rishta Continues' and 'Toh Phir Aao' are the best of the lot followed by 'Yeh Awarapan' and 'Ve Junoon'. 'Tumhare Liye', 'Piya Ghar Aaya' and 'Laado' fail to entice. Raju Singh's background score is much better. Vishnu Rao's cinematography is stunning. The locales of Rajasthan and Bangkok are spectacularly shot. Aejaz Gulab and Kawee Sirikhanaerut's action is a bit gory. Shiraz Siddique and Maxima Basu's costumes are stylish while Sunayana Sabherwal and Tarpan Shrivastavaa's production design is classy. Devendra Murdeshwar's editing is sharp and could have been better in beginning of the second half. Awarapan 2 Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, AWARAPAN 2 works as a mass-appealing action entertainer powered by Emraan Hashmis likeable performance, nostalgia, emotion and whistle-worthy moments. At the box office, the film is all set for a smashing opening and a strong weekend, and this will prove to be one of the biggest hits of the year.
