Indian Oil ramps up LPG output 30%
State-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) increased liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production by nearly 30% and kept its refineries running above full capacity as disruptions to maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz put India's energy supplies under pressure, chairman Arvinder Singh Sahney said on Monday.Addressing IOC's 67th annual general meeting, Sahney said the escalation of the West Asia conflict had disrupted global energy markets and forced the company to diversify crude sourcing, rework refinery operations and secure supplies from alternative geographies.Also Read: ONGC explores drillship acquisition/JV for deepwater capacity under Samudra ManthanFor IndianOil, the priority during this unprecedented crisis has remained crystal clear - to maintain continuity of energy supplies despite constrained sourcing options and volatile international markets, he said.India imports more than 88% of its crude oil requirement, with around 45% of crude imports and nearly 90% of LPG imports linked to the Strait of Hormuz. Any prolonged disruption to the strategic waterway therefore poses a significant risk to the world's third-largest oil consumer.Sahney said IOC responded by diversifying crude purchases, adjusting refinery operations and strengthening supply-chain coordination, while working closely with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.With close monitoring and guidance from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, our teams have responded with agility - diversifying crude sourcing, realigning refinery operations and strengthening supply-chain coordination to secure alternate supplies, optimise cargo movements and rebalance products across regions, he said.The company deployed 24-hour control rooms, daily reviews and real-time market monitoring to identify and address supply gaps. Aggregate sales across petroleum products, natural gas and petrochemicals exceeded 105 million tonnes.IOC's refineries processed a record 75.45 million tonnes of crude during the year, while liquid pipeline throughput reached an all-time high of 102.52 million tonnes. Domestic petroleum-product sales also hit a record 88.97 million tonnes.The strong operating performance extended into the first quarter of the current financial year. IOC processed a record 19.17 million tonnes of crude, equivalent to 109.4% capacity utilisation, while pipeline throughput rose to a quarterly record of 28.55 million tonnes.Its share of the domestic petroleum-products market increased to 43.1%, Sahney said.While profitability during the quarter remained under pressure from higher crude costs arising from the West Asia conflict, the strength of our operating performance gives us confidence in the underlying resilience of your company, he said.Refining capacity to cross 98 million tonnesIOC is also stepping up investments to expand its refining footprint.Expansion projects at its Panipat, Gujarat and Barauni refineries are expected to lift the company's group refining capacity from 80.75 million tonnes a year to around 98 million tonnes.As India works towards expanding its overall refining capacity to 300 million tonnes a year, IOC expects to account for more than 40% of the additional capacity, Sahney said.At the same time, the company is seeking to reduce its reliance on traditional refining by expanding into higher-growth businesses such as petrochemicals, natural gas, renewables, biofuels, green hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel.IOC aims to increase its petrochemical intensity to around 15% by 2030 and raise natural-gas sales 1.5 times by the same year. It also plans to increase upstream integration to more than 10% by 2031.On energy transition, construction has begun on a large-scale green hydrogen plant at Panipat. IOC has also received ISCC CORSIA certification for sustainable aviation fuel production through co-processing at its refinery.Its renewable-energy arm Terra Clean is developing 1 GW of capacity, with another 4.3 GW under preparation.For Sahney, the disruption caused by the West Asia conflict has reinforced the importance of preparing for supply shocks before they occur.Resilience has to be built before it is tested, he said. In an uncertain world, energy security depends not only on scale, but equally on agility, diversification and preparedness.Sahney said IOC's strategy would be to evolve into a more diversified and integrated energy company while keeping India's energy security at the centre of its operations.In moments of national need, the country's energy security comes first, he said.

Srinagar, Aug 7: Khalin Joshi carded a five-under 66 to complete a commanding nine-shot victory at the INR 1 crore J&K Open 2026 at the picturesque Royal Springs Golf Course in Srinagar. The 33-year-old Bengaluru golfer (63-66-65-66) finished with a tournament total of 24-under 260 to claim his eighth professional title and second victory of the 2026 DP World PGTI season. Joshi, as per a PGTI statement, collected the winners cheque of INR 15 lakh and climbed five places from 13th to eighth in the DP World PGTI Rankings, taking his seasons earnings to INR 34,85,575. Delhis Rashid Khan (68-68-64-69), a two-time Asian Tour winner, finished runner-up at 15-under 269. Panipats Shubham Jaglan (70-68-66-66), a University of South Florida graduate, produced his best result of the season by finishing third at 14-under 270. Joshi began the final round with a six-shot cushion but admitted to feeling nervous after missing the opening fairway. He settled down by the third hole and made successive birdies on the third and fourth to strengthen his grip on the tournament. I was definitely nervous at the start, especially after missing the first fairway, said Joshi. I began to feel more comfortable by the third hole, and the birdies on the third and fourth put me at ease. With the rough making approach shots difficult throughout the week, Joshis plan was to keep the ball in play and rely on the putting touch that had carried him into the final round with a sizeable advantage. My game plan was to keep hitting fairways because I knew that would give me enough birdie opportunities, he said. The key was to stay in the present, execute each shot as well as I could and keep thinking positively. Seeing my drives go straight all day was very satisfying. Joshi added five birdies without dropping a shot to extend his bogey-free run to 55 holes. His closing 66 was his third consecutive bogey-free round and capped a dominant week in which he made just one bogey across 72 holes. The victory followed his four-shot triumph at the Andhra Open in April, where he finished at nine-under 275, and continued an impressive season on the domestic circuit. Joshi was also delighted to win during his fourth visit to Jammu and Kashmir, having previously travelled to Pahalgam and Jammu. Im very happy with the way I played throughout the week and with the overall performance, he said. Royal Springs is unbelievable and offers some of the best views we see all year. It is a stunning golf course, and I hope we can return more often. Joshi believes more tournaments, junior programmes and coaching camps could help the sport grow in the region and enhance Jammu and Kashmirs reputation as a golf tourism destination. There is a lot of potential here. The course is in pristine condition and the weather is excellent, he said. More tournaments would attract stronger fields and more visitors. Srinagar, Aug 6: Khalin Joshi shot a six-under 65 to end the third round with a comfortable six-shot lead at the INR 1 crore J&K Open 2026 being played at Royal Springs Golf Course in Srinagar. The 33-year-old Bengaluru golfer, who began the day seven shots clear, as per a PGTI statement, followed his first two rounds of 63 and 66 with another composed display to reach 19-under 194. Delhis Rashid Khan (68-68-64), also a former Asian Tour winner, fired the days best score of seven-under 64 to move into sole second place at 13-under 200, six shots behind Joshi. Khalin Joshis second successive bogey-free round featured six birdies and extended his run without a dropped shot to 37 holes. The former Asian Tour winner has made just one bogey all week, which came on the par-four 17th during the opening round. While his ball-striking was not as sharp early in the round, Joshi found a way to keep moving forward before rediscovering his rhythm on the back nine. I didnt hit the ball as well on the front nine as I had over the first two days, but making two birdies after missing the fairways was important, said Joshi. I found some momentum on the back nine, hit a few good shots and converted some good putts. Overall, Im feeling confident and positive about my game. Joshi has now produced rounds of 63, 66 and 65, but he is not allowing his commanding position to change his approach heading into the final day. Hitting fairways is the key here because it creates plenty of birdie opportunities, he said. My goal tomorrow will be to find as many fairways as possible. If I can do that, I believe the score will follow. There is just one round left, so I need to stay in the present and continue doing what Ive done over the first three days. Joshi has also enjoyed the distinctive surroundings at Royal Springs. He recalled seeing a bear run across the third fairway from about 100 yards away during the Pro-Am and joked that he hoped it would prove to be his good-luck charm. The fruit trees around the course have added another local flavour to his week. Ive had mulberries and what I think were cherries or apricots near the third hole, as well as a few apples during the practice and opening rounds. Its another part of what makes this place so special, Joshi said. Chandigarhs Ajeetesh Sandhu (65-72-65), another former Asian Tour winner, climbed to third place at 11-under 202 following a third-round 65.
