Haryana fines Gurugram town planner over failure to answer RTI properly
The Haryana State Information Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Gurugram's District Town Planner, an official frequently in the news for his actions against illegal construction, encroachments, and unauthorised occupations, an official said. Taking a serious view of his conduct, the commission has also recommended to the Additional Chief Secretary of Haryana that RS Batth undergo training for discharge of official duties at the Haryana Institute of Public Administration or another suitable institution, he added. In a step towards strengthening urban waste management in Haryana, the state government has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) for setting up four integrated waste-to-energy plants in four major urban centres, officials said on Saturday. Once operational, these plants -- to come up in Hisar, Ambala, Faridabad and Gurugram urban local body clusters -- will collectively process 5,000 tonnes of waste daily through scientific methods and generate a total 50 MW of energy, they said, adding that the plants are expected to become operational by October 2028. According to an official statement, during the signing of the MoUs in Nuh on Saturday, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini hailed the move as a major step towards making the cities cleaner, healthier and more modern. The plants will be established by Oil Green Energy Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oil India Limited. The company will develop residential and commercial projects on this land parcel and expects revenue of Rs 10,000-12,000 crore from upcoming projects on the site. Rising CNG prices across Delhi-NCR have placed an additional financial burden on CNG vehicle owners, especially commercial drivers who depend on it daily. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has raised the price of Compressed Natural Gas by Rs 3.89 per kg, with the revised rates coming into effect from 6 am on Saturday, August 29. According to IGL's latest price list, CNG now costs Rs 95.59 per kg in Noida and Ghaziabad. In Meerut, the new price is Rs 95.47 per kg, while motorists in Gurugram will now pay Rs 92.01 per kg.
