The deceased was identified as Dinesh Prasad, a resident of Belaganj in Gaya district of Bihar, they said. According to officials, the pilgrim developed chest discomfort during the intervening night of August 20 and 21, and was brought to the District Hospital Poonch at around 12:15 am where he passed away. National Sports Awards 2025 announced, 17 sportspersons to receive Arjuna Award
The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports on Tuesday announced the National Sports Awards 2025. The National Sports Awards are given every year to recognise and reward excellence in sports. Based on the recommendations of the Selection Committee chaired by a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, Justice (Retd.) Arun Kumar Mishra, the Government, as per a PIB statement, has decided to confer awards on the following sportspersons, coaches and entities under various categories. Arjuna Awards for outstanding performance in Sports and Games 2025 The Arjuna Award for outstanding performance in Sports and Games is given for good performance over a period of the previous four years and for showing qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline. Arjuna Awards: Tejaswin Shankar, Muhammed Ajmal V and Priyanka Goswami in athletics; Treesa Jolly and Pullela Gayatri Gopichand in badminton; Narender in boxing; Vidit Santosh Gujarathi and Divya Jitendra Deshmukh in chess; Dhanush Srikanth in deaf shooting; Lalremsiami and Rajkumar Pal in hockey; Surjeet and Pooja in kabaddi; Rudransh Khandelwal in para-shooting; Ekta Bhyan in para athletics; Arvind Singh in rowing; and Akhil Sheoran in shooting will receive the Arjuna Award for outstanding performance in sports and games. Arjuna Award (Lifetime): I. Arumainayagam in football has been selected for the lifetime award. Dronacharya Awards: In the regular category, Parveer Singh in athletics, Chhote Lal Yadav in boxing and Neha Nandkumar Chavan in shooting have been selected, while Dharmendra Singh Yadav in boxing and Virender Kumar in wrestling will receive the award in the lifetime category. Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar: The Army Paralympic Node, Pune, has been selected for the award for its contribution to sports promotion and development. The applications for aforementioned awards were invited online and sportspersons/coaches/entities were permitted to self-apply through a dedicated Online Portal. A large number of applications were received for these awards this year, which were considered by the Selection Committee headed by Justice (Retd.) Mishra, and consisting members from eminent sportspersons, persons having experience in sports journalism and sports administrators.
