'Ramayana' Trailer Out: Ranbir Kapoor's Ram, Yash's Ravana Promise Epic Visual Spectacle (VIDEO)

The much-awaited trailer of Ramayana, described as one of India's most ambitious and expensive film projects, was released on Thursday, offering a glimpse of a grand cinematic experience that blends advanced visual effects with the timeless tale of the battle between good and evil. The four-minute trailer begins with Yash's Ravana, showcasing his rise as one of the most powerful rulers on Earth, before introducing Ranbir Kapoor's Ram, marking one of the biggest and most challenging roles of his career. Reportedly made on a massive budget of around Rs.4,000 crore, the two-part epic is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, known for films like Dangal. The film has been produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios and the eight-time Academy Award-winning VFX studio DNEG, in collaboration with actor Yash's Monster Mind Creations. The trailer takes viewers through Ravana's journey of power before shifting to Ayodhya, where Dashrath, the king of Ayodhya, introduces his son Ram. Ranbir Kapoor's Ram is shown as a skilled archer practising his aim while blindfolded. He is declared the future king and wins Sita's hand during the swayamvar. However, the happiness turns into a crisis when his stepmother Kaikeyi demands that Ram be sent into exile for 14 years. Following Suparnakha's confrontation with Lakshman, Ravana vows revenge and kidnaps Sita. The trailer concludes with Ram promising to defeat Ravana and bring his wife back. Although Sunny Deol, who plays Hanuman in the film, does not appear in the trailer, his character is expected to make an appearance either towards the end of the first part or in the second instalment. Ramayana: Part One is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on Diwali 2026. The film will be distributed globally by Sony Pictures, while Dharma Productions will handle distribution in North India. The film's supporting cast includes Ajinkya Deo as sage Vishwamitra and Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra. The screenplay has been written by Shridhar Raghavan, known for films and series including Pathaan, War and The Night Manager. The music is composed by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman and Hollywood's celebrated composer Hans Zimmer, whose iconic works include The Lion King, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Dunkirk, Interstellar and the Dune franchise.
